MOTHER
You ushered me
into this great world of light,
You pillowed my helpless and innocent head;
You fed me; and guarded my crib in the night,
You could have been selfish, but loved me instead.
You watched o'er my sickbed and hushed my weak
cry;
You cared when discouragement crept in my way,
You asked, "What's the trouble?" when you heard me sigh;
But best of all, Mother, you taught me to pray.
Thank you for caring when I should have cared;
Thank you for praying when I've failed to pray;
Thank you for bearing what I haven't shared;
I'm so glad, dear Mother, that this is YOUR day!
(M. G. C.)
Mother's Love
When you were small
And just a touch away,
I covered you with blankets
Against the cool night air.
But now that you are tall
And out of reach,
I fold my hands
And cover you with prayer.
(Dona Maddux Cooper)
"Nobody knows of the work
it makes
To keep the home together.
Nobody knows of the steps it takes,
Nobody knows-but Mother."
